Guide

It may seem like Videochat is expensive or futuristic but it's actually available now and free. You will not be charged long distance to call people over the Internet. Just your monthly charges to your service provider will apply. To Videochat you just need three things.

  1. A computer.
  2. A connection to the Internet.
  3. A webcam or digital camera (optional).

If you're reading this from home you must have items one and two already. You can videochat without a webcam but finding a willing partner can be difficult. If you just want to connect to someone you already know then it shouldn't be a problem. Of course they won't be able to see you if you don't have a webcam.

How to Get Started

1. First download and install Microsoft NetMeeting for free here. Be sure and bookmark this page so we can help you get started using it. (If you are using an Apple computer CUSeeMe is a popular videochat software.)

2. After you have installed the NetMeeting software find it under the start menu, usually listed in programs/accessories/communications/netmeeting. Launch NetMeeting now by choosing it in the start menu. Now NetMeeting should be running on your computer.

3. Now go under the options menu and set up your information if the NetMeeting wizard hasn't done it for you already. If your information is blank it will be very difficult for you to find a partner to videochat with.

4. Your browser Internet Explorer should now be configured correctly to use the Videofrog ILS scanner.

If you aren't using Internet Explorer please switch to that browser now. Unfortunately the callto: links NetMeeting uses do not work correctly in other browsers. Now click here to visit the ILS scanner. You can browse the list of users all over the world and request connections. Please remember that if you don't have a webcam it will be difficult to find a willing partner to videochat with you. Here's a good site that sells webcams for a low price. They can cost anywhere from 30 to 500.
